Latest Alerts from Staffordshire Trading Standards (February 12, 2010)
Staffordshire Trading Standards are warning about a company currently leaflet dropping and door knocking in the Cannock area.
The company are offering to drop the kerbs outside homes and telling residents they have the Council’s permission to do so. The Council have not given this company permission to carry out this work.
One resident was quoted £100 for this work to be carried out. The company then proceeded to remove the kerb stones and replace them without dropping the kerb. The resident challenged this and the company response was that to have the job carried out properly would cost £500.
The Police were notified, however the company failed to return to complete the work.
We have reason to believe they are still operating in Staffordshire.
It appears that someone in Stone has fallen victim to a telephone scam similar to the ones outlined in the Trading Standards Alerts on this News page. The advice is DO NOT give any personal financial details to ANY callers to your home unless you are ordering goods from a supplier that you have contacted.
There also seems to be an increase in the number of email scams asking for a monetary contribution to release funds from frozen bank accounts in Africa. Do not reply to these mails as they are bogus.
